Family History
Sharlayan Gleaner Kassandra Writhaver, Andi to her friends, became pregnant with twins on the Azim Steppe by a fierce warrior, Ozberg of Mok. She completed her gleaning assignment and returned to Sharlayan before realizing her condition. She bore her babies after a complicated pregnancy in a difficult birth, for which Ozberg travelled to be at her bedside; the office of entries still remembers the Xaela warrior's enraged push past all official channels, allowing none to stand between him and holding his Nhaama's hand as she faced their trial.
Injuries sustained by those he fought to enter Sharlayan illegally resulted in permanent loss of limb in three cases, and one guard succumbed to his injuries, dying shortly after the children were born. Ozberg was expelled from Sharlayan, banished on pain of death, never to return.
Ozberg and Andi resolved to share their children between their two worlds. Andi raised her babies with a thirst for knowledge typical of denizens of her city-state, and Ozberg instilled in them the destructive prowess necessary to excel in war games. Their frequent adventures abroad, both strapped to their mother far and wide on her gleaning trips and to the Steppe to stay with their father, sowed a deep longing for travel in the twins.
Ozberg Mok II, named for his father and going by Ozzy, aspired to become an Archon in his youth. He faced down the barrier of the reputation of his father's crime, overcoming his family's detractors through sheer capability. His sister-brother Kore, uninterested in anything Sharlayan, chose the path of the warrior and left aged twelve to train under their father and fight for the Mok.
Ozzy and his mother share inborn aethersight, but this was unable to explain other "hallucinations" in their vision which gave them clues towards understanding others' motivations, their desires and fears. Understanding this condition was Ozzy's sole interest, until his research specialization granted coveted access to a project deep below Labyrinthos. His first fumbling loves, adolescent romances and fraught love triangles, played out with his lab partners: Professor Claudien, Ruissenaud, Nemjiji.
Andi's health worsened in her old age. Ozzy cared for his elderly mother alone when she became unable to travel without severe risk to her health. Sibling and father rushed to be with her in her last days, only to be held up by administrative red tape on a vessel anchored offshore. Ozberg was kept under guard, a contingent of adventurers hired to arrest and subdue any repeat attempts at entry to the city-state. Ozzy was too distraught to act. It was Kore who carried their mother to the seaside, then rowed her out to be attended by her family when it became apparent she was dying. Andi yearned for the Steppe in her last hours and, from the small vessel bobbing on the bay under a clear starry night, the traditional songs her family sang to guide her soul in death were heard by all ashore.
After his mother died, avid, single-minded study consumed Ozzy. It was unhealthy and bitter obsession. His father wanted his son by his side, but Ozzy refused; it caused a rift between them, Ozberg's tender heart easily wounded by the child who bore so many memories of his Nhaama, and who looked so like her, refusing to 'come home.' Ever-stoic, Kore observed their falling out and said nothing.
Ozzy abused (and manufactured) stimulants, was recruited by a Gleaner named Ivanis to participate in distribution, stole from other researchers, and was expelled from Archon school. Losing access to the object of his dissertation compels him to seek another access point to the arcane phenomenon at the center of this world. He returned, laboring under shame, to his father's land. Father and son somewhat mended their relationship, but remain unable to fully reconcile. Kore refrains, as always, from interfering.
Ozzy abided in his second homeland for some time, honing the skills of war. A capable mercenary who never lost passion for adventure, he left for Ul'dah to amass a fortune in the name of his research, and later put his martial prowess to the test as a slayer of gods and hero of the Dragonsong War.
